I was commissioned to spend two weeks working with artists David Littler and Simon Woolham, whilst travelling on a canal boat through the Northamptonshire countryside. It was a very intense and positive experience, with unexpected outcomes. Crocheting was an important activity for women of the working canal boats. David arranged for a lady to come on board to show us examples. My memories of learning to crochet as a child came flooding back, and crocheting skills were passed on. I made a large map on tracing paper of our route on the Grand Union Canal and River Nene, and then crocheted a map case. The final part of the project was an event whilst going through the tunnel at Stoke Bruerne, with Jason Singh, where I read a selection of readings.
