I was commissioned to produce a new piece of work for an exhibition entitled Rural Walsall. I was inspired by a painting in the collection showing a group planning a bike ride from the centre of Walsall, to create a new cycle route. The Sliver Route is so called because it encompasses a sliver of land that on the A-Z of Walsall was white – indicating that there was nothing there. Needless to say, in fact there was a lot there – allotments, fields of horses, fishermen, I made audio recordings of the wonderful people I met on my bike. During the exhibition I led bike rides along The Sliver Route.
